Lo andai a prendere a Linate, ma era già distrutto dalla droga e dall'alcol. In albergo chiamai un medico. Non si reggeva in piedi. Camminava per la stanza e per il corridoio con i calzoni e le mutande abbassate gridando in spagnolo me mata!, (mi ammazza!). Si calmò soltanto quando giunse Fernanda Pivano. Fu come se avesse visto la mamma. Le mise la testa sul seno e rimasero abbracciati. Nanda ordinò dello champagne perché Kerouac si trovava in crisi di astinenza. A parte questi momenti era una persona gentile».

... nessuno ha pensato al dilemma dei suoi ultimi vent'anni; soprattutto nessuno ha pensato ai lunghi minuti solitari, affondati nell'abisso non più dell'alcool ma della realtà, mentre il suo stesso sangue lo strangolava, togliendogli minuto per minuto quella vita che in tutti i suoi libri ha fatto da inafferabile protagonista in un'ambivalenza di felicità e di disperazione, di bellezz   a e di orrore, ma di cui Kerouac ha cantato soltanto gli slanci di apertura verso la vitalità e l'energia.
Una vita che aveva poco a che fare con quella che il mondo contemporaneo lo costringeva a vivere, fino a ricacciarlo come un animale ferito nell'agguato dell'alcool; nell'agguato di qualcosa che lo illudesse di potersi sottrarre al suo destino.

Quindi inventerò l'Haiku Americano. la semplice terzina in rima.    diciassette sillabe? No. Pops americani . Semplici poesie di tre versi.

The American Haiku is not exactly the Japanese Haiku
The Japanese Haiku is strictly disciplined to seventeen syllables but since the language structure is different I don't think American Haikus (short three-line poems intended to be completely packed with Void of Whole)   should worry about syllables because American speech is something again ... bursting to pop.

Above all a Haiku must be very simple and free of all poetic trickery and make a little picture  and yet be as airy and graceful as a Vivaldi Pastorella. JK 1959

When we’re alone he says 'Your mother wrote and said your cat is dead'   .   Ordinarily the death of a cat means little to most men, a lot to fewer men, but to me, and that cat, it was exactly and no lie and sincerely like the death of my little brother - I loved Tyke with all my heart, he was my baby who as a kitten just slept in the palm of my hand and with his little head hanging down, or just purring for hours,  just as long as I held him that way, walking or sitting - He was like a floppy fur wrap around my wrist, I just twist him around my wrist or drape him and he just purred and purred and even when he got big I still held him that way, I could even hold that big cat in both hands with my arms outstretched right over my head and he’d just purr, he had complete confidence in me - and when I’d left New York to come to my retreat in the woods I’d carefully kissed him and instructed him to wait for me 'Attends pour mue kitigingoo' - But my mother said in the letter he had died the NIGHT AFTER I LEFT.

Si era affezionato in particolare al micio Tyke - di cui parla in big sur -  che considerava come un fratello e quando l’animale improvvisamente morì  lo scrittore cadde in una profonda e cupa depressione  .
